Recently disclosed documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal a concerning issue with a 2024 model from a California-based automaker. Identified on April 4, 2024, a missing dashboard airbag label raised alarms, prompting an investigation by the Field Performance Engineering team.
Despite the delay in awareness until April 25, 2024, steps were taken to address the issue. Rivian, the automaker in question, attributed the missing labels to an assembly issue, violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208.
To rectify this, a recall involving 127 vehicles produced between February 20 and March 5, 2024, was initiated. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries related to this concern.
Affected owners will receive notifications by mail before June 21, 2024, accompanied by a replacement label. Meanwhile, Rivian continues its vehicle lineup expansion, with plans for new models like the R2 and R3 joining the R1T and R1S in the coming years. Despite challenges, Rivian remains committed to its production goals, as evidenced by its recent quarterly performance.
