BMW has revived an old fascination just in time for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, showcasing the BMW XM Mystique Allure draped in velvet. Opinions may vary on its appeal, and we respect all views, even those who find it charming in its purple hue.
Not much is known about the bespoke BMW XM Mystique Allure, except it merges “high fashion with high performance” and can be seen at BMW’s pop-up store in Cannes during the festival, which runs from May 14 to 25. The car features partial velvet coverage, a risky choice given the possibility of rain.
The festival also highlights American filmmaker Greta Gerwig as jury president and the anticipated film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” Meanwhile, alternatives to BMW’s unique purple XM exist.
The Mystique Allure’s use of velvet extends to the interior and exterior, and it includes reversible sequins reminiscent of children’s fashion. This isn’t BMW’s first fabric-covered car the 2008 BMW Gina Light Visionary Model used a flexible fabric surface but had a more appealing retro design and was a simpler roofless two-seater sports car from the polarizing Bangle era.
