The EZ-6, an electrified sedan made by Changan and Mazda, will debut in China by the end of the year as a spiritual successor to the Mazda6. Unfortunately, it won’t be available in the U.S., and the all-electric Mazda Arata is also unlikely to reach North America, following the MX-30’s poor reception.
However, Mazda enthusiasts can look forward to the next-generation CX-5 compact crossover SUV, which will include a hybrid powertrain and be available in the U.S. The CX-50 is also getting electrified, likely using a Toyota-based powertrain, as seen in the CX-50 models with RAV4 hybrid components in China.
The next CX-5, introduced in 2017, will feature an in-house-developed Skyactiv hybrid powertrain. Mazda hasn’t specified whether it will be a regular hybrid or a plug-in hybrid like the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90, but this hasn’t stopped speculation and digital renderings.
AutoYa’s YouTube channel recently offered an unofficial preview of the next-generation Mazda CX-5. The renderings show a refreshed exterior that retains the CX-5’s traditional design while incorporating updates. The interior features a clean look with a large central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster.
The channel’s POVs of the design project showcase various color options. While these renderings are speculative, they provide an interesting look into the potential design of the next CX-5, which Mazda has yet to officially reveal.
