In September 2022, a video from a car meet organized by the Supercar Owners Circle Club in Croatia became popular on the internet. The $17 million Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta was seen sliding down a street in the footage, and there was a loud impact audible.
The automobile appeared to have spun out of control because the driver applied too much pressure on the throttle. The front suspension and bodywork of the Zonda were badly damaged in the ensuing collision with an approaching Ford Fiesta.
The incident was particularly devastating as the Zonda is not only expensive but also extremely rare, with only three HP Barchettas ever produced. One of these belongs to Horacio Pagani, the founder of the car company.
Since the crash, the Zonda has been undergoing repairs at the factory. Three months ago, an Instagram post from the car’s owner, Oleg Egorov of TopCar Design, updated us that all body parts were in the paint shop and were soon to be assembled. The post mentioned that all damaged panels were replaced but not repaired.
Egorov owns one of the world’s largest collections of Pagani Zondas, including two Zonda Cinques, a Zonda R, a Zonda Tricolore, a Zonda 760 Roadster, and a Pagani Huayra BC. However, the crashed Zonda HP Barchetta is the most valuable, initially priced at $17 million.
The crash was attributed to the driver’s emotional driving, a common issue with high-performance vehicles. Even seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton crashed his Zonda in 2015, describing it as “terrible to drive.”
A 7.3-liter powers the Zonda HP Barchetta naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing 789 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 221 mph.
