A safety recall has been issued for the new Countryman, which was revealed in November 2023 as a 2025 model. The bracket, attached by two screws, could detach from the door panel during a side crash that deploys the thorax airbag, potentially causing serious injuries. Both left- and right-side brackets are believed to be affected.
Fortunately, BMW of North America hasn’t reported any incidents or injuries related to this issue. Dealers have been instructed to replace the panel assemblies, and owner notification letters aren’t needed since none of the recalled vehicles have been sold.
Nine vehicles produced for the U.S. market between March 4, 2024, and March 22, 2024, at BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany, are affected. The third-generation Countryman began production in November 2024, and initial models often encounter such issues.
In addition to the Countryman, BMW Group Plant Leipzig produces the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe, and 2 Series Active Tourer. Of these, only the 2 Series Gran Coupe is available in the U.S., as an entry-level model.
