Blaming Waze or any other navigation app won’t help the driver of a Toyota Camry avoid arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Early one morning at 7:54 AM, the California Highway Patrol in Marin received a report about a driver stuck on a pedestrian bridge near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nellen Avenue, along southbound US-101 in Larkspur, just north of San Francisco.
The situation was so tight that the driver couldn’t even exit the car because the guardrail designed to protect pedestrians was blocking the doors. Fortunately, the guardrail also kept the car from falling into the water below, preventing any injuries.
The driver, impaired at 8 AM, must have attempted to reach his destination but got stuck as the walkway narrowed, trapping the Toyota Camry with no chance to move forward or reverse.
The driver was arrested, and an investigation is underway to determine how he ended up on the pedestrian bridge. The California Highway Patrol shared the story in a Facebook post, as reported by Carscoops. Many drivers take wrong turns due to navigation apps DUI, or both.
This driver is not the first to find himself in a peculiar situation. In March 2023, a Ford driver got stuck on railroad tracks in Manila, Philippines, blaming Waze. However, police reports revealed that he was simply unfamiliar with the area and got confused in the dark at 4 AM.
In 2022, Andrew Beavers from England drove the wrong way on the A38 near Buckfastleigh, resulting in a collision with four other vehicles. Another driver in Edinburgh took a wrong turn and ended up stuck on stairs, blaming Google Maps. Local media confirmed that the map had given incorrect directions, though common sense should have prevented driving downstairs.
