A classic automobile enthusiast’s ideal find is the 1966 Impala SS. This Impala, found in a small Southern Indiana hamlet by eBay seller 64pirate, has everything a collector could ask for. First of all, everything is original; no non-original components have been added.
The car has been sitting since 1975, having only spent nine years on the road. Assuming the owner cared for it, any maintenance would have been routine, leaving the car mostly untouched.
Second, while it has typical rust issues, the damage is mainly surface level. The seller has already inspected the undersides, and though some work is needed, it’s manageable for a professional restorer.
Third, it’s a Super Sport (SS), a highly desirable model. The 1965 Impala was the first car in the US to sell over a million units in a year, with strong sales continuing into the late 60s, driven by the popularity of big-block engines in the SS models.
The Impala comes with its original 1966 license plate, books, papers, keys, jack, and spare. Unsurprisingly, it has attracted attention online, with eight bids pushing the price to $9,000. The no-reserve auction means the highest bidder will win.
The 327 engines under the hood awaits a major overhaul, with some parts, like the heads, missing but most components are still there. The car is in Evansville, Indiana, and will need a trailer for transport due to the incomplete engine.
