The Renault Group has outlined its future strategy for the Alpine brand, a coveted sports car manufacturer set to expand its presence into the United States. At the 2024 Annual General Meeting, Renault CEO Luca de Meo revealed the forthcoming plans for the Alpine brand.

De Meo confirmed Alpine’s transition into a global brand, with ambitions to introduce seven electrified models, potentially including hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Seven EVs are in the pipeline, aimed at expanding the brand’s global presence, with a target of 50 percent of Alpine sales occurring outside Europe by 2030. The flagship will be an electric sports car, succeeding the gas-powered A110, slated for discontinuation soon, and confirmed for release in the United States. The A110 EV is expected to debut in 2026, competing with the upcoming Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster EVs.

In the United States, the focus will be on two SUVs. A compact model, potentially named the A390, may share its platform with the Nissan Ariya upon arrival in 2027. Meanwhile, the larger A490 is speculated to adopt a wagon-like design similar to the Taycan Cross Turismo.

Alpine is also looking into hydrogen-powered vehicles, with the Alpenglow Hy4 concept, a Le Mans-inspired racer, powered by a 340-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that runs on hydrogen. A larger V-6 is reportedly in the works, with hints that the Alpenglow could see limited production. While the electric A290 hot hatch, previewed by a concept, is set to debut this summer, it won’t be available in the United States.

Nonetheless, Alpine aims for a diverse lineup as it ventures into the U.S. market later in the decade. In contrast to its A110’s predecessor, which relied on a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine, the upcoming A110 will feature an all-electric powertrain. Utilizing the Alpine Performance Platform reports from L’argus suggests it will incorporate a 77-kWh battery pack.

This shift towards electrification is expected to resonate with American consumers, positioning the forthcoming electric A110 as a formidable competitor to the upcoming all-electric Porsche 718 Boxster successor.
