The latest iteration of Honda’s Civic showcases an innovative hybrid powertrain that delivers a robust 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft (315 Nm) of torque. This enhanced performance is achieved despite the addition of extra weight and the removal of the manual gearbox, which has been substituted with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
This setup allows the updated Civic to achieve nearly 50 mpg (4.7 l/100 km) combined fuel economy. Electric motors deliver impressive torque at startup, reducing fuel consumption during acceleration. Regenerative braking allows drivers to choose the amount of stopping power from the electric motors, reducing brake dust pollution and prolonging the lifespan of friction brakes.
Despite the increased weight, Honda promises the Civic’s new suspension setup will handle it well, as demonstrated in Europe. However, the hybrid Civics may require specific tires developed for these models, potentially limiting initial alternatives and leading to higher costs.
Comfort features include Active Noise Control and improved sound deadening. For those not interested in the hybrid model, the LX and Sport trims are available without the electric motors and battery. Honda has not specified prices for these trims but promises affordability for young buyers.
The 2025 Honda Civic sedan, manufactured in Ontario, Canada, is expected to arrive at dealerships in June, with the hatchback, made in Greensburg, Indiana, following in July or early August.
The launch trims include:
- LX (sedan exclusive)
- Sport
- Sport Hybrid
- Sport Touring Hybrid
The Sport Hybrid trim offers a moonroof, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate controls. The Sport Touring Hybrid adds leather seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a nine-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in Google Assistant and Google Maps, a wireless phone charger, and a three-year unlimited data plan.
Hybrids will have distinguishing features like headlamp garnish and front lower spoiler in the exterior body color. New colors include Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Pearl, Blue Lagoon Pearl (sedan exclusive), and Sand Dune Pearl (hatchback exclusive). Honda expects the hybrid Civic to account for approximately 40% of all new Civic sales.
