The Wagoneer S, Jeep’s first electric vehicle in the US, will be revealed officially on May 30th. In a new video, Jeep talks about how well it performs compared to rivals like the Tesla Model Y. They wanted to show how good it is, so they took a nearly finished model to the Willow Springs International Raceway in California.
The video, titled “Surpass Yourself,” shows the Wagoneer S racing against a Model Y and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It’s all about showing off the hard work Jeep has put into this new model. The numbers in the video look impressive, but they haven’t been checked by anyone outside of Jeep.
The Wagoneer S is big and luxurious, much more than the Model Y. But they still wanted to compare them. The Wagoneer S has 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, which is faster than Jeep’s other SUV, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, even though it has 100 less horsepower.
Jeep says the Wagoneer S can go more than 300 miles on a single charge. They didn’t say how long it takes to charge, though. And because it’s a Jeep, they showed it driving off-road too. It has different modes for different terrains, so it can handle rough roads better than a Model Y.
The design of the Wagoneer S is important too. Ralph Gilles, the design chief, made sure it still looks like a Jeep, with the famous seven-slot grille. Inside, there’s a big sunroof, a fancy sound system, and lots of screens. It’s really luxurious, like other Jeeps, but even more so. It will go on sale in the fall, but we don’t know how much it will cost yet. The regular Wagoneer starts at $65,000, so this one will probably be more expensive.
