Honoring the illustrious legacy of Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna, McLaren pays tribute through the revealing of special edition vehicles, a tradition that continues this year with a unique iteration of the McLaren Senna. Senna, who won three Formula One championships with McLaren in 1988, 1990, and 1991, sadly passed away at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.
Recognized for its remarkable performance on the racetrack, the McLaren Senna is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 789 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. With only 100 meters needed to accelerate the Senna from 0 to 124 mph, this power translates into incredible performance.
With a custom hand-applied livery in the vibrant green, yellow, and blue tones associated with Senna’s helmet and the Brazilian flag, the McLaren-owned special edition vehicle embraces Senna’s famous look.
McLaren Senna Tribute (McLaren) named “Senna Sempre,” the livery was affixed to the prototype utilized in the car’s initial launch campaign at the Estoril Grand Prix track in June of 2018. The intricate design blends colors using a wash technique, creating a flag-like effect. Senna’s double S logo adorns the front and rear wings, and his name is prominently displayed on the top of the wing.
The car’s interior features yellow Alcantara upholstery with green perforations on the seats, while the doors are black Alcantara with Senna’s signature and one of his favorite phrases: “I have no idols. I admire work, dedication, and competence.” McLaren is paying respect to Senna by having their Formula One team use a unique livery with the same color scheme at the Monaco Grand Prix.
