The Ram 1500 is the smallest truck in the lineup for folks here, but in Mexico, they have more options. They’re getting the compact 700 and the new 1200. This upcoming truck, leaked before its official reveal, is meant for Mexico and South America. It’s expected to come out in 2025. The 1200 name was used before for a Fiat truck in the United Arab Emirates from 2016 to 2019.

This new truck, the Ram 1200, is based on the Peugeot Landtrek, a truck not available in the US. It’ll be made in China alongside the Landtrek. Unlike the Landtrek, the Ram 1200 will come in single and double cab styles. There will be different trims, from basic work trucks to fancier ones. It’ll have a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine with around 210 horsepower. You can get it with either a manual or automatic transmission.

The 1200 will have rear-wheel drive, but some models will have four-wheel drive. The basic work version will be able to tow about 6,600 pounds and carry about 2,650 pounds. Ram made some changes to the 1200 to make sure it’s good for use in South America and Mexico. We’re not sure yet if it’ll have diesel engine options.

The Ram 1200 looks a lot like the Peugeot Landtrek, but with a different grille and Ram badges. It’ll have lots of safety features, with up to 29 driving assists. It’s expected to come out in June, with prices ranging from about $26,600 to $40,000. It’ll compete with trucks like the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Hilux, but it probably won’t come to the US. However, there are rumors that Ram might bring back the Dakota or make a new truck called the Rampage.
