Aiming for a completely electric car lineup by 2035, Volvo has begun production of its flagship EX90 SUV at its South Carolina plant.
This facility, operational since 2018 and boasting a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually, has undergone significant upgrades to support the EX90. These include expanded body and paint shops, as well as a state-of-the-art battery production line.
The EX90, Volvo’s first electric offering in this class, signifies its commitment to electrification despite some competitors taking a slower approach. Designed for families with its seven-seat layout, the EX90 prioritizes safety with next-generation systems and advanced core computing technology.
This tech-forward SUV also boasts a comprehensive suite of sensors and the ability to receive over-the-air software updates.
Aiming for a fully electric future, Volvo has revealed the EX90, its first electric seven-seater SUV. This luxury car boasts an impressive range, thanks to a new platform and a large 111 kWh battery pack.
With a choice between two powertrains, drivers can opt for the base Twin Motor delivering a respectable 0-60 mph time, or upgrade to the Twin Motor Performance for a thrilling acceleration experience.
Despite the speed capabilities, Volvo prioritizes safety with an electronically limited top speed. This decision aligns with the company’s broader sustainability efforts, which include ending diesel production and setting ambitious goals for complete electrification by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2040.
