While Subaru celebrates strong sales growth in its SUV lineup, a different story unfolds for its passenger cars.
Despite the Outback reaching a sales milestone of three million units and wholesales rising 7.3% year-to-date, the Impreza and Legacy see declining sales.
Due to this trend and the whole market move toward crossovers and SUVs, Subaru announced that the Legacy would no longer be produced after the 2025 model year.
However, the enthusiast community remains vibrant, with digital car creators like Dimas Ramadhan conjuring visions of a hypothetical next-generation Legacy.
If Subaru were to revive the Legacy after 2025, it could potentially borrow design cues from the recently launched Forester SUV.
The platform might also change, moving from the current one to the one underpinning the Toyota Camry, which offers a hybrid option. This aligns with the industry’s shift towards electrification.
Notably, the Camry’s all-wheel-drive and hybrid setup could be a good fit for Subaru’s adventurous brand identity. To visually maintain a symmetrical all-wheel-drive, the hypothetical new Legacy could incorporate black plastic wheel cladding, similar to current Subaru crossovers and the WRX.
