Not all legendary muscle cars made it to production. While the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 became a sought-after classic, a prototype for a 1971 model year version remained hidden for decades. Thankfully, the sole surviving example has been restored and showcased at a recent car event.

Taking the place of the absent Boss 302 in 1971 was the Boss 351. Sharing a similar look to the Mach 1, the Boss 351’s true distinction resided under the hood.

It packed a specially tuned 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8 engine, boasting unique internals and a high-performance carburetor.

This one-of-a-kind powerplant bumped horsepower to 330, surpassing the Boss 302 and coming close to the mighty Cobra Jet.

This Pewter Metallic beauty is one of just 1,806 ever produced, making it a cherished gem of the first-generation Mustangs.

This particular example boasts factory-correct features, from the flawless metallic silver paint and gleaming chrome trim to the precisely placed black stripes.
