In the past, carmakers were obsessed with horsepower and speed. Now, with the electric vehicle revolution, charging times are becoming equally important.

While electric cars boast impressive technology, refilling their batteries can take significantly longer than filling a gas tank. However, the industry is rapidly innovating.

Recent advancements offer a look into a future where charging is as convenient as pumping gas.

Polestar’s use of StoreDot’s technology achieved a 10-minute charge from 10% to 80%, sparking hope for faster charging times. This week, a lesser-known company called Nyobolt presented even more promising results.

While Nyobolt’s initial target for deploying their EV battery tech was this year, they’ve achieved a significant milestone with the launch of their first running electric vehicle prototype.

This test vehicle will be used to confirm the battery’s performance capabilities. Early tests have shown promising results, with the battery charging from 10% to 80% in just under five minutes, potentially setting a new record for charging speed.

This achievement is attributed to the use of high-powered DC chargers and innovative battery tech that Nyobolt says extends battery life even with frequent fast charging.

The company claims the battery can reach over 600,000 miles and endure more than 4,000 fast charging cycles while maintaining 80% capacity, outperforming current offerings in the market.
