While major automakers like Ford and General Motors have already reported their quarterly results, Porsche has finally released its sales figures for Q2, offering a look into both the US and global markets.
The news for Porsche Cars North America is positive, with Q2 marking a record-breaking sales period. They delivered an impressive 21,304 vehicles between April and June, solidifying their position in the US market.
This sales boom can be attributed, in part, to the enduring popularity of the iconic 911. June 2024 saw the 911 achieve its highest monthly sales ever in the US, contributing to a total of 4,790 units sold in the quarter and a strong 6,720 for the first half of the year.
Global car deliveries in the first half of 2024 faced a significant decline of 7% compared to the same period in 2023, with a total of 155,945 vehicles reaching customers.
This slowdown impacted all major regions, including North America (-6%), China (-33%), and overseas/emerging markets (-2%). Despite the drop, Porsche maintained strong sales for its Cayenne and Macan models, securing the top spots among the automaker’s global best-sellers.
The Cayenne achieved 54,587 deliveries, while the Macan saw an 18% decrease year-over-year to 39,167 units, likely due to the ongoing transition to a fully electric version.
Porsche’s sales report for the first half of 2024 reflects a shift towards electrification and updates to core models.
While the iconic 911 continues to perform well with an 8% increase in deliveries (28,212 units), the Panamera and Taycan saw significant drops due to model changes.
Panamera deliveries fell by 25% to 13,255 units, and Taycan deliveries dropped by 51% to 8,838 units compared to the same period last year. This trend is likely due to the introduction of the third-generation Panamera and the mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 Taycan.
The all-new electric Macan generated significant pre-order interest, with deliveries expected to begin in the latter half of 2024 for the US market as a 2025 model.
Porsche’s commitment to electrification extends beyond the Macan, with the introduction of a hybrid option for the 911 Carrera GTS. This new T-Hybrid system pairs a 3.6-liter engine with an electric motor, replacing the previous 3.0-liter twin-turbo setup.
