If you’re behind the wheel of a 2024 Honda CR-V, there’s an important safety update you should be aware of from American Honda Motor.

A recent discovery by Honda identified a potential issue affecting approximately 1,725 CR-V SUVs. The concern centers on the 235/60R18 tires equipped on these vehicles.

During a regular inspection, some owners might find these tires missing a critical detail: the date code.

This four-digit code, usually located on the sidewall, serves as a vital piece of information for tracking a tire’s age.

Essentially, it acts like a manufacturing fingerprint, pinpointing the exact week and year the tire was produced (for instance, 1024 signifies week 10 of 2024).

In response to a tire defect identified in March 2024, Hankook has implemented several improvements to its production process.

These include enhanced training for staff, stricter cleaning procedures, and a new quality control standard to ensure proper date code installation. To further guarantee quality, the factory will be outfitted with an automated inspection system by September 2024.

Honda dealerships are prepared to identify and replace affected tires. Owners will be notified by mail in mid-August and instructed to schedule an inspection for their vehicles. The recall is identified as NHTSA campaign number 24V-508 and Honda BIS internally.

Looking ahead to the 2025 model year, the CR-V gets a new fuel-cell option alongside the existing gasoline and hybrid choices.

This eco-friendly variant, however, is currently limited to a dozen dealerships in California and can only be leased, though substantial hydrogen fuel credits help offset the initial cost.

The CR-V Hybrid remains the most affordable electrified option, while the base gasoline LX offers the lowest entry point. Both come with distinct engine types, with the hybrid featuring a naturally aspirated powerplant and the gasoline model boasting a turbocharger.
