A potential safety hazard has prompted Fisker to recall 11,308 Ocean SUVs worldwide. The issue lies with the cabin water pump, which could malfunction and cause a complete loss of power.
This poses a serious risk, especially on highways, as the car would be forced into limp mode, drastically limiting its speed. Investigations revealed the root cause to be a defective printed circuit board within the water pump.
This circuit board lacked sufficient protective coating, leaving it vulnerable to damage. To address this problem, Fisker is recalling all affected vehicles manufactured before March 7, 2024.
Fortunately, the fix is a straightforward replacement of the faulty water pump with a properly coated circuit board. Fisker will perform this repair at no cost to owners, and will also ensure the coolant system is functioning properly after the replacement.
Owners of certain Fisker Ocean electric vehicles (VINs starting with VC, assembled in Austria) will need to get their cabin water pump replaced due to a potential failure.
Fisker, despite recent bankruptcy, is notifying impacted owners (US only) by mail by August 23rd. The replacement for both LHD and RHD vehicles is a quick fix, taking around 45 minutes at a service center. To check for a recall on your specific Ocean, simply run the VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
