Lucid Air owners in the United States have reason to visit their dealer, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced two separate recalls impacting a substantial number of vehicles produced between October 2021 and October 2023.
The first recall deals with a potential problem with a key component for winter driving: the high-voltage coolant heater. Supplied by Webasto Thermo & Comfort SE, this heater could experience internal failure due to a manufacturing defect.
This failure would prevent the heater from functioning properly, compromising the vehicle’s defrosting capabilities. In cold weather conditions, this could lead to frosted or fogged windshields, significantly reducing visibility for the driver.
Impaired visibility is a major safety hazard, as it can hinder reaction time and increase the risk of accidents. The first issue tackles a malfunctioning high-voltage coolant heater that could hinder defrosting during cold weather, reducing visibility and creating a potential hazard.
The second concern pertains to a software glitch that might cause a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in operation, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. Fortunately, solutions exist for both problems.
Lucid will be proactively reaching out to affected owners throughout August to address these issues. Let’s take a closer look at the specifics of each recall and what actions you should take to ensure your Lucid Air remains safe on the road.
