Bidding farewell to production lines in 2005, the Ford Excursion left behind a lasting impression in the SUV world. This leviathan on wheels turned heads with its cavernous interior, phenomenal towing capacity, and the sheer grunt provided by its hefty V8 and V10 engines.

Though the crown for “biggest” has been passed to the Cadillac Escalade ESV, the Excursion’s spirit lingers on, especially among enthusiasts who can’t help but ask: could a comeback be in the cards?

This possibility isn’t entirely outlandish. Today’s automotive scene is teeming with a diverse range of SUVs and trucks, making a modern Excursion a potentially dominant force. Ford currently offers the Expedition Max and Lincoln Navigator L, valiant contenders against rivals like the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL.

However, with the even larger Cadillac Escalade ESV carving out its own space, a gap remains for an SUV that pushes the boundaries of size and capability. This potential niche could be the perfect breeding ground for a resurrected Excursion, a champion tailored for those seeking the ultimate blend of space, power, and hauling prowess.

Despite being discontinued in 2005, the Ford Excursion holds a special place in the hearts of many drivers who crave a super-sized SUV. Its massive footprint and towing capacity made it ideal for large families or those who needed to haul serious cargo.

This has led car enthusiasts and digital designers to dream up a modern revival of the Excursion. One such example comes from Dimas Ramadhan, a YouTube automotive artist known for his Digimods DESIGN channel.

Ramadhan’s vision reimagines the Excursion for 2025, leveraging the powerful platform of the Ford Super Duty trucks. While the underpinnings would be shared, the design takes inspiration from the recently updated F-150, particularly in the lighting design.

The aesthetic blends classic Ford SUV elements with a boxy yet attractive shape that manages to be both tough and slightly elegant.

This hypothetical Excursion would offer all the utility of the original, with the ability to haul a multi-generational family, their gear, and even a trailer in tow. However, for now, this remains a figment of the digital world Ford has made no announcements regarding a return of the Excursion nameplate.
