Porsche has initiated a recall affecting 2,475 Cayenne SUVs produced between May and June 2024 at its Bratislava plant. A manufacturing defect in the driver-side front axle upper control arm, produced by THK Rhythm Automotive Czech, could lead to premature failure under heavy stress.
These control arms connect the wheel to the vehicle body, managing crucial forces. While Porsche is unaware of related incidents, they will replace affected parts free of charge. Dealers will be notified in July, and owners by September.
Pinpointing the exact production date of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) can be a challenge for owners, but Porsche’s VIN lookup tool offers a solution. By inputting the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), owners can determine if their Cayenne is affected by a recall.
Despite being manufactured in Slovakia, Cayenne VINs intriguingly begin with “W”, a remnant of pre-unified West Germany, contrasting with Kia’s “U” prefix for Slovakian-made vehicles. The Cayenne reigned supreme in Porsche’s first-half sales, outselling the Macan with 54,587 units compared to 39,167.
While the Macan leads in the US with 12,004 deliveries, the Cayenne follows closely with 10,168. Excluding the Cayenne Coupe, the lineup encompasses V6-powered Cayenne and Cayenne E-Hybrid models, V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne GTS, and the top-tier Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid.
The Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe, essentially a more potent GTS, stands apart with a blistering 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph, outperforming the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid’s 3.5 seconds and 183 mph. Priced at $203,800 compared to the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe’s $161,500, the Turbo GT Coupe is the range-topper.
