Audi has officially revealed the all-new A5 family, a successor to the discontinued A4. This marks a shift in Audi’s naming strategy, reserving even numbers for electric models. Built on the advanced PPC platform, the A5 boasts a more aggressive design, spacious interior, and cutting-edge technology.
Available in Sedan and Avant body styles, the A5 offers a range of 2.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines, with mild-hybrid assistance for the latter. Power outputs range from 150 to 204 horsepower, with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
The luxurious cabin features a massive dual-screen setup and advanced driver assistance systems. Debuting alongside the standard A5 is the high-performance S5. This sporty offering boasts a 3.0L V6 engine with mild-hybrid tech, generating 362 horsepower (367 ps) and paired with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and Audi’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive (AWD).
Audi promises enhanced handling with reworked steering and suspension, with an optional adaptive suspension available for further driver engagement. While the new A5 lineup encompasses a sedan (actually a five-door liftback) and an Avant (wagon), the future of the coupe and cabriolet variants remains unclear.
Audi hasn’t confirmed their return, and some speculate they might be discontinued altogether. This hasn’t stopped digital artists from envisioning the A5/S5 as two-door models. Kdesignag on Instagram has created realistic renderings depicting both a fixed-roof coupe and an open-air cabriolet.
