Scooped during trials in Spain, BMW is prepping a mid-cycle update for the current, seventh-generation 7 Series. This facelift, designated G70 internally, aligns with the timeline of the preceding G11/G12 generation’s refresh. Production rumors suggest a July 2026 start date, mirroring the G11/G12’s update cycle.
In terms of aesthetics, the G70 facelift seems to draw inspiration from the XM and Neue Klasse concepts. The most striking alterations are likely upfront, featuring redesigned headlights, a potentially reworked bumper, and the iconic kidney grille possibly gaining height. At the rear, anticipate a connecting light bar and a quad-exhaust setup.
Powertrain options might also see a naming shift, with diesel retaining the lowercase ‘d’ and gasoline models ditching the lowercase ‘i’. Rumors swirl about a possible renaming scheme for the electric BMW 7 Series. While some find the current eDrive50 and xDrive60 designations clear and concise, reports suggest a future with 50 eDrive and 60 xDrive badges.
The next-generation 7 Series is poised to receive a cutting-edge telematics system dubbed EES25. This innovation won’t be limited to the 7 Series, as it’s expected to be integrated into forthcoming vehicles like the G65 X5 and its electric sibling, the iX5.
The EES25 system will also play a role in the future Neue Klasse lineup, which will initially introduce a sedan comparable in size to the current 3 Series and an X3-sized SUV previewed by recent concept vehicles.
Production for this generation of the 7 Series is anticipated to continue until June 2029, and there’s even a whisper of it featuring a panoramic head-up display that stretches the width of the windshield, further enhancing the driving experience.
