Kia’s 2024 EV9, its largest electric passenger vehicle to date, has undergone rigorous safety assessments by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. While the EV9 has earned the commendable Top Safety Pick award, it narrowly missed the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation due to an outstanding requirement.

The vehicle’s performance in the critical moderate overlap front crash test will determine its eligibility for this highest safety accolade. Additionally, early production models of the GT-Line and Land grades fell short of IIHS standards, impacting their rating.

Nevertheless, the EV9 shines in other safety aspects, demonstrating exceptional performance in crashworthiness, headlight technology, and front crash prevention systems. Its ability to adeptly avoid collisions, even in challenging nighttime conditions, underscores Kia’s commitment to safety.

The EV9’s potential for achieving the highest safety rating remains promising, pending the results of the forthcoming crash test. Kia’s EV9, a substantial electric SUV initially produced in South Korea, has expanded its manufacturing footprint to West Point, Georgia, commencing production in May 2024.

Anticipation is building for a potential price reduction following this localized production, as the current starting MSRP of $54,900 for the base model, equipped with a 230-mile range, is considered lofty for a Kia vehicle.

Stepping up to the Long Range RWD variant delivers an extended range of 304 miles, accompanied by the opulence of second-row captain’s chairs, but at a premium starting price of $59,200.

While currently leading the segment in terms of range, the all-wheel-drive Wind trim prioritizes features like dual sunroofs over maximum distance, resulting in a capped range of 280 miles. Positioned as a twin to an upcoming Hyundai crossover, the EV9 is poised to contribute significantly to the growing electric SUV market.
