Mercedes-AMG may be reversing course on its electrification strategy. Following backlash over the electrified four-cylinder in the C 63, the upcoming CLE 63 S could potentially feature a V8 engine. Recent shots of the model reveal a lack of charging ports and electrification badges, suggesting a traditional powertrain.
If this is the case, it’s likely to share the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with the SL 63, delivering 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This would position the CLE 63 S as a more potent and potentially quicker alternative to the electrified C 63, while the milder CLE 53 will continue to offer a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with mild-hybrid assistance.
The upcoming 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 S shares a striking familial resemblance with its lesser sibling, the CLE 53. Both models boast the iconic Panamericana grille, sculpted fender vents, and aggressive side skirts.
However, the CLE 63 S distinguishes itself with exclusive front air intake fins, a unique diffuser, and a quad-exhaust system featuring squared-off tips. Notably devoid of electrification badges and a charging port, the heavily camouflaged prototype suggests an imminent official revealing.
Speculation points to a possible debut within the next few weeks or months, potentially at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it could share the spotlight with BMW’s anticipated M5 Touring.
