General Motors has initiated a recall encompassing over 21,000 Cadillac Lyriq electric SUVs manufactured between December 2022 and August 2024. The recall was prompted by two minor accidents attributed to diminished braking performance, as well as a third incident involving unexpected anti-lock brake activation at low speeds on dry roads.
A comprehensive investigation revealed a software defect within the electronic brake control module as the root cause, resulting in reduced braking capability due to persistent ABS pressure release. To rectify the issue, GM will deploy an over-the-air software update or offer dealership-based updates at no cost.
Proactive measures have been implemented at the production facility to prevent affected vehicles from reaching consumers. Cadillac has issued a software recall for the Lyriq’s infotainment system. Dealerships are already equipped with the necessary remedy and will soon notify affected owners.
Owners can also proactively check for updates through the vehicle’s settings. The Lyriq, a cornerstone of Cadillac’s electric vehicle lineup, shares its platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV. Available in Tech, Luxury, and Sports trims, the mid-size crossover offers a compelling blend of luxury and performance.
While the base model starts at $57,195, Cadillac is poised to introduce a high-performance V variant that is expected to match or surpass the exhilarating capabilities of the Blazer EV SS. This upcoming model will undoubtedly raise Lyriq’s performance credentials and broaden its appeal to a wider audience.
