The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, a luxurious electric pickup truck based on the GMC Hummer EV platform, has finally arrived in the hands of eager customers.
However, this initial offering comes with some limitations. Only the most expensive Denali Edition 1 trim is available, priced at a hefty $99,495 before taxes and optional extras.
Customers are also restricted to a single paint color, Thunderstorm Gray, and wheel design, 24-inch aluminum wheels with a six-spoke design, selective machining, and Denali etching. The interior theme is equally limited, with the After Dark design being the only option available.
As for options, customers can choose to add a bed storage system for $1,649 or a dual-zone powered cooler from Dometic for $1,499. A more affordable cooler option is also available, the $239 Dometic Patrol 35. Given its electric nature, GMC offers Level 2 chargers in two models: 11.5 kilowatts at 48 amps or 19.2 kilowatts at 80 amps.
Equipped with a 205-kW battery pack, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 boasts a claimed range of 440 miles (708 kilometers) combined. GMC promises a rapid charging time of 10 minutes for up to 100 miles (160 kilometers) using a 350-kW DC fast charger. This is a significant improvement over the Hummer EV’s estimated range of 314 to 298 miles (505 to 480 kilometers).
True to its luxurious nature, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is undeniably powerful. It features a dual-motor setup, delivering a maximum power output of 754 horsepower in Max Power mode. With a peak torque of 1,064 Nm, this electric truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, while significantly heavier than its combustion-engined counterpart, offers a range of features that make it a compelling choice for those seeking a luxurious and capable electric truck. With its impressive 10.2-kilowatt mobile power source, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 provides a convenient and versatile solution for various power needs.
Building upon the luxurious Sierra 1500 Denali, this zero-emission truck boasts a panoramic fixed glass roof, premium interior materials, and advanced technology features. One of the standout features of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is its spacious eTrunk, which offers 11.0 cubic feet of storage space.
Additionally, the bed area provides ample cargo capacity, with a maximum of 57.5 cubic feet. Despite its size and weight, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 delivers impressive towing and payload capabilities, with a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 1,450 pounds.
Equipped with Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and the innovative CrabWalk feature, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 offers a comfortable and versatile driving experience. While the CrabWalk feature may be seen as a gimmick, it undoubtedly adds a unique and attention-grabbing element to the truck.
Following the Denali Edition 1, GMC plans to introduce the Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation trims, along with a smaller battery option to make the truck more affordable for a wider range of buyers.
