Tesla has issued a recall for 9,136 Model X vehicles produced between 2015 and 2016 due to a faulty room trim primer. The recall was prompted by reports of detached roof appliques in vehicles that had undergone a previous recall.

Tesla has identified 125 service reports, 40 warranty claims, and 6 field reports related to the issue, but there have been no reports of accidents or injuries. The faulty primer, which was supplied by an unnamed supplier, was found to be insufficient at the applique-to-urethane interface.

This led to the roof appliques becoming detached, potentially posing a safety hazard. Tesla has been aware of this issue since 2020 when it first received a report of a detached roof applique. However, it was not until 2022 that the company determined the root cause of the problem.

To address the issue, Tesla has recalled all affected vehicles for a second time. The company will inspect the vehicles and reprime the roof appliques as necessary. Tesla has also taken steps to improve its quality control processes to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.

It is important to note that this is not the first time Tesla has faced quality control issues. In recent years, the company has been criticized for several problems, including battery fires, software glitches, and manufacturing defects. While Tesla has made significant progress in addressing these issues, the recall of the Model X vehicles is a reminder that the company still has work to do to ensure the safety and reliability of its products.

Tesla has not yet provided a timeline for the recall, but it is expected to begin in the coming weeks. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and can contact Tesla directly for more information. Tesla has recently announced a recall for certain Model X sport utilities due to a potential issue with the rear suspension.

The new remedy for this issue differs from the original in that retention tests will now be conducted at a higher force of 120 newtons, compared to the previous 60 newtons. This increased force is intended to ensure the long-term durability and reliability of the rear suspension system.

While Tesla has already notified service centers about the recall and test, owner notification letters will be sent out on or around October 14, 2024. Owners can determine if their vehicle is affected by entering their 17-character VIN on Tesla’s recall portal. If a vehicle is found to be included in the recall, Tesla will schedule a service appointment to perform the necessary repairs or adjustments.

It is important to note that this recall is a precautionary measure and that no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of the issue. Tesla is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers and is taking proactive steps to address any potential concerns.

The recall highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and inspections. By staying informed about recalls and following the recommendations of manufacturers, owners can help to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles.

Additionally, Tesla’s commitment to addressing potential issues and ensuring the safety of its customers is a testament to the company’s dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. This recall serves as a reminder that even the most advanced and innovative vehicles can experience issues and that it is essential for manufacturers to take proactive steps to address these concerns.
