The Toyota GR Supra, a sports car powered by a BMW-sourced engine and automatic transmission, outperformed a slightly modified Nissan Z in a quarter-mile drag race. The Supra’s lighter weight, higher torque output, and more efficient transmission provided it with a significant advantage.

Despite its modifications, the Nissan Z was unable to match Supra’s performance. The Supra’s weight advantage was a key factor in its victory. At 3,343 pounds, the Supra was noticeably lighter than the Nissan Z, which weighed in at 3,507 pounds.

This difference in weight allowed the Supra to accelerate more quickly and reach higher speeds. In addition to its weight advantage, the Supra also benefited from its higher torque output.

The Supra’s 3.0-liter engine produced 368 pound-feet of torque between 1,800 and 5,000 revolutions per minute, while the Nissan Z’s 3.0-liter engine produced 350 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 5,200 revolutions per minute. This extra torque gave the Supra a boost in acceleration, especially at lower speeds.

Finally, the Supra’s automatic transmission was more efficient than the Nissan Z’s manual transmission. The Supra’s automatic transmission was able to shift gears more quickly and smoothly, which helped it maintain its momentum and accelerate more rapidly. The Toyota GR Supra’s combination of lighter weight, higher torque output, and more efficient transmission made it a clear winner in the quarter-mile drag race against the slightly modified Nissan Z.

The BMW Z4, equipped with a 400-horsepower V6 engine, is a formidable sports car in its own right. However, when compared to the Toyota GR Supra, with its inline-six engine and 0.3 seconds faster acceleration times, the Z4 falls short. Despite modifications to the Z4, including new tires and an intake, it couldn’t match the Supra’s performance. This is evident in the quarter-mile times, where the Supra consistently outperformed the Z4 by a significant margin.

Additionally, the Supra’s chassis tuning and weight distribution are optimized for performance, resulting in better handling and stability. While the Z4 is a capable sports car, it ultimately lacks the raw power and refinement of the Supra.

While the Z4 is a respectable option, the Supra’s performance edge and package make it the clear winner in this matchup.
