OEM Systems, a supplier of aftermarket truck parts, has initiated a recall for certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks due to faulty rear bumper mounting brackets. The recall was prompted by a field incident reported by Express 4×4 Truck Rental, where a hitch failure occurred on a diesel-powered Silverado HD.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the rear bumper mounting brackets used in these trucks were not rated for towing, potentially leading to detachment and posing a significant safety risk to drivers and passengers.
As a result of this issue, Express 4×4 Truck Rental has advised its customers to refrain from towing with their affected Silverado HDs until the necessary repairs are made. The recall specifically targets the 3500 LT 4×4 Crew Cab Service Body and the 2500 LT 4×4 Crew Cab Pickup models equipped with the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo diesel engine and Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmissions.
It’s important to note that these transmissions are not manufactured by Allison but are instead branded by the company. OEM Systems has taken swift action to address the problem, ordering replacement brackets and hitches and filing the necessary paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The replacement parts are being shipped to Express 4×4 Truck Rental, which will be responsible for repairing the affected vehicles.
The recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle inspections and maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of all components. It also highlights the potential risks associated with using aftermarket parts that may not meet the same quality standards as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components. The 2025 Silverado HD lineup introduces significant enhancements.
The replacement mounting brackets are constructed with twice-as-thick steel, and the hitch features a completely new design. To ensure optimal quality, the replacement parts were sourced from B&W Trailer Hitches in Humboldt, Kansas, rather than using contract manufacturing.
The base price for the 2025 Silverado HD starts at $45,300 for the 2500 and $46,500 for the 3500 with a regular cabin and long bed. Various configurations are available, including a double cabin with the long or standard bed, and a crew cab with either bed. The standard powertrain is a 6.6-liter small block L8T engine, the only fifth-gen small block with an iron block.
Unlike previous models, the L8T does not include cylinder deactivation or start-stop technology. Designed specifically for truck applications, the L8T delivers a powerful 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque and operates smoothly on 87 octane fuel. The Duramax diesel engine offers a maximum of 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.
The Silverado 3500 has a maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 7,237 pounds. The 4500 medium-duty truck starts at $59,535, while the 6500 begins at $63,835. The 6500 boasts a GVWR of up to 23,500 pounds, compared to 19,500 pounds for the 5500 and 16,500 pounds for the 4500.
Additionally, the 2025 Silverado HD features some other improvements, including a redesigned interior with more technology and comfort features. The truck is also available with a variety of optional packages, such as a luxury package, a technology package, and an off-road package.
The 2025 Silverado HD is a significant upgrade over the previous model. It is more powerful, more capable, and more comfortable. If you are in the market for a new heavy-duty pickup truck, the Silverado HD is worth a look.
