Mercedes-Benz, the renowned German automaker, had initially planned to transition entirely to electric vehicles by 2023 in markets where conditions were favorable. However, due to slower-than-anticipated demand for battery-electric vehicles, the company announced in February 2024 that internal combustion engines would continue to be offered beyond 2030.

This decision has led to the extension of the product cycle for models like the GLS-Class. To maintain the GLS’s market presence, Mercedes-Benz is preparing a second facelift for the 2027 model year. This update will introduce subtle changes to the front end, including a revised bumper, grille, and headlights.

Additionally, the interior is expected to receive updates to the infotainment system, center console, and controls. Recent photos have captured prototypes of the 2027 GLS undergoing testing on public roads and at the Nurburgring. One of the prototypes, a Mercedes-AMG 63, has been spotted with minimal camouflage and lacks the traditional three-pointed star badges on the front and wheel caps.

Surprisingly, despite rumors, this particular model does not feature a charging port flap, indicating that it will likely retain a traditional internal combustion engine. Mercedes-Benz’s GLS SUV lineup for the 2025 model year has been revealed, offering a range of powertrain options and features. While the highly anticipated plug-in hybrid version of the AMG GLS 63 has not materialized, the model still boasts a powerful twin-turbo V8 engine.

The flagship GLS 600, available in Maybach trim, delivers a substantial boost in power thanks to its 550-horsepower V8 engine. All GLS models benefit from mild-hybrid technology, enhancing fuel efficiency and performance. The base GLS 450 is equipped with a six-cylinder engine, while the GLS 580 steps up to a twin-turbo V8.

The GLS’s popularity in the United States has remained strong, with sales increasing by 22% in the first half of 2024. This growth can be attributed to the SUV’s combination of luxury, performance, and versatility. The GLS offers ample interior space, advanced technology features, and a comfortable ride, making it a compelling choice for families and individuals seeking a premium SUV.
