Honda is gearing up to introduce a revamped version of its third-generation HR-V crossover SUV in Australia. This update marks a significant departure from the North American and Chinese variants that share the same name but possess distinct characteristics. While Honda is renowned for its reliable and family oriented vehicles, the company made a strategic decision to differentiate between the global and regional versions of the HR-V.

The global model, launched in 2021, maintains the compact dimensions of its predecessors, offering a more nimble and fuel-efficient driving experience. In contrast, the North American and Chinese variants are larger and essentially rebranded ZR-Vs, catering to a different market segment with a preference for more spacious interiors and potentially more powerful engines.

This divergence in model offerings highlights Honda’s commitment to tailoring its vehicles to specific regional preferences and market demands. By offering distinct versions of the HR-V, the company aims to cater to a wider range of consumer needs and preferences, ultimately strengthening its position in the competitive crossover SUV market.

Honda Australia has introduced a revamped HR-V model, featuring subtle exterior changes and a new hybrid variant. The refreshed crossover will be available in three trims: Vi X, e:HEV X, and e:HEV L. The e:HEV X, positioned between the gasoline-only Vi X and the flagship e:HEV L, marks a significant addition to the Australian market.

Priced competitively, the Vi X starts at AUD 34,900, followed by the e:HEV X and e:HEV L at AUD 39,900 and AUD 42,900 respectively. These prices include government incentives where applicable. All models are two-wheel drive and come with a range of exterior color options, including the new Slate Grey and Botanical Green (exclusive to hybrid models).

Under the hood, the HR-V offers a choice of a 1.5-liter VTEC engine or a hybrid system combining a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine and two electric motors. The hybrid models benefit from enhanced features like an Adaptive Driving Beam and revised suspension tuning. Inside, the cabin receives updates including a redesigned center console, USB-A and USB-C ports, and improved smartphone storage.

Safety is a priority with the addition of Honda Sensing features like Low-Speed Breaking Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Adaptive Driving Beam (hybrid models only). Honda Australia’s Vice President, Carolyn McMahon, expressed excitement about the new hybrid option, stating it addresses customer demand and expands the company’s hybrid offerings.
