Stellantis has issued a safety recall for 32,863 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles produced between 2020 and 2024 due to a potential instrument panel cluster failure. The affected vehicles, manufactured in Ohio, may experience a short circuit that could cause the cluster to fail without warning.
The recall, which began in October 2022, was initiated after an investigation into warranty claims and failure patterns. The supplier, Marelli North America, conducted tests and agreed that a recall was necessary. Dealers will begin replacing the affected clusters on September 12, 2024, with a new design for the printed circuit board.
Owners will receive notification letters by October 3, 2024. The recall includes 11,554 Gladiator units produced between June 8, 2019, and May 18, 2024, and 21,309 Wrangler units produced between January 26, 2018, and May 17, 2024.
Jeep’s recall of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) was necessitated by federal safety regulations. The IPC is responsible for illuminating various telltale lights, which must be visible to the driver even in bright daylight. If the IPC fails, these lights won’t illuminate, leading to a safety violation.
Chrysler’s recall number for this issue is 30B, while the NHTSA refers to it as 24V-652. Customers who have already replaced the IPC can seek reimbursement from Jeep with proof of purchase. Moving forward, Jeep is introducing several updates to its Wrangler lineup. The 2024 model year will feature a limited-production HEMI V8 engine option, providing enthusiasts with a powerful and thrilling driving experience.
This V8 engine will offer exceptional performance and torque, making it a desirable choice for those seeking maximum power output. In addition to the V8 option, Jeep will also introduce an updated 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain in the 2025 model year. This 4xe setup combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor, offering a balance of power, efficiency, and eco friendliness.
The 4xe powertrain will provide a quiet and smooth driving experience, as well as the ability to operate in electric only mode for reduced emissions and improved fuel economy. The 4xe powertrain will not only be available in the Wrangler but also in the Gladiator pickup truck for the 2025 model year. This will make the Gladiator 4xe a unique and desirable option in the mid size truck segment.
With its plug-in hybrid capabilities, the Gladiator 4xe will offer a combination of off-road capability, fuel efficiency, and electric-only driving for those who prioritize both performance and sustainability.
The Gladiator 4xe’s closest competitor will be the Toyota Tacoma with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. While the Tacoma offers a respectable level of power and torque, the Wrangler 4xe will have a slight advantage in terms of system output.
The Wrangler 4xe’s combination of gasoline engine and electric motor will provide more power and torque, making it a more capable and versatile vehicle for off-road adventures and daily driving.
