The Genesis GV70, in both its internal combustion and electric forms, has achieved the highest safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The compact luxury crossover excelled in all four crashworthiness tests conducted by the nonprofit organization, including the small overlap front crash test, original and updated moderate overlap front crash tests, and the updated side impact test.

Surprisingly, the GV70 also earned the top rating for headlight performance, despite some minor issues with high beam visibility on the left side. The forward collision-avoidance assist system, while deemed acceptable, could have performed better in certain scenarios, particularly in nighttime pedestrian tests.

However, the GV70 did reduce impact speeds significantly in these tests, demonstrating its effectiveness in mitigating collisions. The 2025 Genesis GV70 and 2024 Electrified GV70 have earned the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The vehicles impressed the safety organization with their seatbelt reminder performance and LATCH ease of use. To qualify for the award, the GV70 and Electrified GV70 must be produced after April 2024.

Based on the Hyundai M3 platform, the GV70 competes with premium SUVs like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Priced starting at $45,700, the GV70 undercuts the GLC 300 and X3 xDrive30. However, the outgoing Q5 is slightly more affordable.

All three German rivals offer 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, while the GV70 comes standard with a larger 2.5-liter engine. A more powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine is also available. The Electrified GV70, which is built in the United States, has a starting MSRP of $66,950 and offers a driving range of 236 miles.
