Ford Motor is enhancing the sophistication and technology of its large Expedition SUV as part of a redesign aimed at better positioning the vehicle against increasing competition in the full-size SUV segment.

The redesigned three-row SUV offers a more refined interior and exterior, improved comfort, and advanced convenience features.

Highlights include a 24-inch driver display and the addition of Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system, providing a smoother and more high-tech driving experience.

“We spent over 1,100 hours engaging with customers to understand their daily lives. With those insights, we’ve reimagined the Expedition to help customers maximize valuable family time and make their lives easier before, during, and after each trip,” said Trevor Scott, general manager of Ford Utilities.

Ford announced that the 2025 Expedition will start at approximately $63,000, including destination charges, when it arrives at dealerships in the spring.

This is over $5,000 more than the 2024 model but still below the average transaction price of $70,000 for current models.

The last major redesign of the Expedition took place seven years ago when its primary competitors were General Motors’ full-size SUVs, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and GMC Yukon.

While GM’s SUVs continue to dominate the segment, new challengers like Stellantis’ Jeep Wagoneer and larger three-row crossovers from Kia and Hyundai have entered the market.

Three-row crossovers like the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade—though smaller and less expensive than the Expedition—are among the most cross-shopped vehicles in the full-size SUV segment.

The full-size SUV market, including the Expedition, has grown to represent 2.7% of the U.S. auto market in 2023, up from 2% in 2017, with total segment sales reaching approximately 312,500 units through September.

For 2025, Ford is also updating the Expedition’s model lineup, which will now include Active, Platinum (with an “Ultimate” version), King Ranch, and the new Tremor model, inspired by off-road adventures.

While the Tremor package is new for the Expedition, it has already been available on other Ford vehicles.

The Expedition will remain available in two versions: the standard model and the longer “Max” model. Both will be powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, with the option of a high-output version offering 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
