This 1968 Pontiac GTO, once a symbol of American muscle car prowess, now sits abandoned in a junkyard. Despite its dilapidated state, the car’s iconic styling remains recognizable, with

its hidden headlights and distinctive body lines. While the GTO’s clean title suggests potential, the extent of its rust and decay makes it a daunting restoration project. Given the car’s current condition, it’s unlikely to find a buyer willing to undertake the extensive work required to bring it back to life.

The 1968 Pontiac GTO, renowned for its powerful 400ci V8 engine, offered buyers a choice of two configurations: the base 350 horsepower version and a less potent 255 horsepower option with a two-barrel carburetor.

While the latter was initially intended to appeal to budget conscious buyers, it quickly became a redundant choice as few customers opted for it. To cater to enthusiasts seeking even more performance, Pontiac introduced the Ram Air upgrade package. This $342 option included forged pistons, crankshafts, and ported cylinder heads but sacrificed air conditioning.

The GTO in question, identified by its 242 VIN code, has spent countless years in a junkyard, exposed to the elements. As a result, the engine is no longer functional and is likely beyond repair. The car itself is in a sorry state, with extensive rust, missing floors, and a stripped interior.

Despite its condition, the GTO’s iconic status and potential for restoration may still appeal to some enthusiasts. However, it is crucial to inspect the vehicle thoroughly before making an offer, as the photos only provide a partial look at its condition. The owner has clarified that there are no additional parts available, and the GTO is essentially a shell with little remaining value.

Forget pristine classics fetching six figures this 1968 Pontiac GTO is a far cry from showroom condition. While a well-preserved example could easily command close to $100,000, originality and completeness are crucial factors.

A true survivor in an unrestored state would be a true gem, but unfortunately, that’s not the case here. This particular GTO is a shell of its former glory, lacking many parts and its original condition is long gone.
