Lexus, following in the footsteps of its rivals Cadillac and Lincoln, is preparing to launch a refreshed LX flagship SUV series in the United States. The new lineup will include an electrified version, further expanding the brand’s offerings in the luxury SUV segment.

Toyota Motor North America has been steadily gaining ground on General Motors in the U.S. market, with a difference of around 220,000 vehicles between them after the first nine months of the year.

Lexus, as part of Toyota’s premium division, has contributed significantly to this growth, achieving its best ever sales result in its 35-year history through the third quarter. Despite GM’s slight sales decline of one percent compared to the same period in 2023, Toyota Motor North America saw a substantial increase of 6.2 percent.

Lexus, in particular, delivered over 248,000 units to customers, representing a growth of 10.7 percent. Key contributors to this success included the hybrid ES sedan, the NX crossover SUV series, the RX (especially HEV and PHEV), and the all-new TX three-row SUV.

Lexus has recently revealed their enhanced LX series, including the groundbreaking LX 700h, their first-ever hybrid model. This new hybrid showcases advanced technology and promises to rival the efficiency of the 2025 Escalade and 2025 Navigator. Additionally, Lexus is venturing into new territory with the LX Overtrail special edition.

While specific US market details are yet to be announced, Lexus has confirmed a phased global rollout starting in late 2024. The refreshed LX series boasts a range of upgrades, including a new digital instrument cluster, updated seats, wireless charging, and enhanced safety features.

The LX 700h features a unique parallel hybrid system with a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 engine, a ten-speed automatic transmission, and an integrated motor generator. This system offers full-time 4WD, a low-range transfer case, and a dual alternator and starter for uninterrupted operation.

Although power figures haven’t been released, the LX 700h is expected to outperform the standard LX 600, which delivers 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. With a higher price tag than the LX 600’s $94k starting price, the LX 700h is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury SUV market.
