Kia, the South Korean automaker, is gearing up to launch the EV4, a compact electric vehicle, in both sedan and hatchback body styles. Recent spy shots of the hatchback being tested on the Nurburgring have revealed more details about its design and development.

The EV4 is progressing rapidly, with early prototypes spotted just a few months ago. The car has since shed much of its camouflage, providing a clearer view of its exterior. The latest sighting, featuring a lighter camouflage, suggests that Kia is now conducting high-speed testing on the famous German race track.

The absence of the black cladding used on previous prototypes likely indicates a focus on improving aerodynamics. The EV4 hatchback’s design appears to closely resemble the previously revealed sedan concept, at least from the front. While the rear design remains somewhat obscured, it is expected to share elements with its sister model, the EV3.

This similarity hints at shared technical specifications and performance characteristics. The upcoming EV4 is set to build upon the success of its predecessor, the EV3. While it will share the same Hyundai-Kia E-GMP platform, it will adopt a more affordable 400 volt architecture. Two battery options will be available: a standard 58.3 kWh pack and a larger 81.4 kWh extended-range variant.

The latter is expected to deliver a WLTP range of up to 400 miles, surpassing the EV3’s already impressive 374-mile range. Both battery packs will support DC fast charging at speeds of up to 102 kW and 128 kW, respectively. Inside, the EV4 will likely feature a familiar screen-heavy interior layout, reminiscent of other Hyundai and Kia models.

This includes a digital instrument cluster and infotainment display seamlessly integrated under a single glass panel. Chat GPT integration, already seen in the EV3, is expected to provide voice control for various vehicle functions, while a few physical buttons will remain for essential controls.

Additionally, the EV4 is expected to offer a range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. These features will help to enhance safety and comfort during driving.

Furthermore, the EV4 may incorporate a new infotainment system with enhanced connectivity features, such as wireless smartphone integration and over the air software updates. This will allow drivers to stay connected and keep their vehicles up to date with the latest features and technologies.

The EV4 promises to be a compelling electric vehicle option, offering a combination of impressive range, fast charging capabilities, advanced technology, and a comfortable interior. With its focus on affordability and practicality, the EV4 could appeal to a wide range of drivers seeking a modern and efficient electric vehicle.
