Xiaomi is stepping up its efforts in the automotive market. Following the successful launch of the SU7, a battery-powered saloon, the Chinese tech giant—known for its smartphones and now electric vehicles—is preparing to introduce its second car.

According to reports from local media and international outlets, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch an electric SUV.

Currently referred to by the code name MX11, this SUV is expected to debut in February or March 2025. It will compete in the same market segment as the Tesla Model Y, aiming to attract a similar customer base.

Xiaomi’s Growing Automotive Ambitions

Xiaomi has already established itself as the eighth largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in China. This rapid ascent follows the success of its SU7 electric saloon and the high-performance SU7 Ultra variant.

The latter, priced at 814,900 yuan (approximately £89,000), is positioned as a luxury offering and has demonstrated impressive capabilities, such as reaching a top speed of 224 mph during testing at the CATARC Yan Cheng Automotive Proving Ground.

The base version of the SU7, however, is more affordably priced at around £22,500, making it cheaper than the Tesla Model 3. This competitive pricing contributed to a surge in bookings, resulting in record-breaking sales for Xiaomi.

Expanding the Lineup

Buoyed by the success of the SU7, Xiaomi is preparing to expand its range with at least two new vehicles.

As mentioned earlier, one of these is expected to be the MX11 SUV, which may feature a coupe-inspired design. This speculation is based on sightings of a prototype undergoing road tests.

The second new model remains largely a mystery. However, there are rumors suggesting it could be a larger SUV with six seats and a range extender, potentially named the N3.

Details about this vehicle are still scarce, but it reflects Xiaomi’s ambition to diversify its offerings in the electric vehicle market.

With these developments, Xiaomi aims to solidify its position as a formidable player in the EV industry, building on the strong foundation laid by the SU7.
