The updated Kia EV6 GT will adopt the high-performance powertrain of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, delivering a substantial boost in power. The dual-motor, four-wheel-drive system produces 601bhp and 545lb ft of torque in standard mode, which can temporarily increase to 641bhp and 568lb ft in the GT drive mode. These figures surpass the outgoing EV6 GT’s 576bhp, emphasizing its enhanced performance potential.
While Kia has not confirmed precise performance metrics, the new setup is expected to improve the EV6 GT’s acceleration. The outgoing model reaches 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, and the comparable Ioniq 5 N claims 3.4 seconds. The new powertrain should provide a similarly thrilling improvement, aligning the EV6 GT with its sporty electric competitors in terms of speed and agility.
In addition to its powertrain, the EV6 GT introduces the simulated automatic gearbox featured in the Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV9 GT. This system mimics the behavior of a combustion-engine car, offering paddle-shifting, torque modulation, and soundscapes that adapt to simulated gear changes. Drivers can choose between manual paddle operation, automatic mode, or a traditional electric drive experience by disabling the system.
The car’s larger 84kWh battery pack replaces the previous 77kWh unit, likely improving its range beyond the outgoing model’s 263 miles per charge. While official range figures are pending, this upgrade complements the EV6 GT’s performance enhancements, ensuring it remains competitive in terms of practicality and driving distance.
Set to debut in the UK early next year, the updated EV6 GT will also feature styling updates influenced by Kia’s EV3, EV5, and EV9 models. Anticipated changes include a revised exterior, a refreshed interior with a new three-spoke steering wheel, and potentially higher pricing than the outgoing model, which starts at £62,675. These updates aim to solidify the EV6 GT as a leading choice in the performance EV market.
