Farewell, A90 Supra. Indeed, we knew you quite well—perhaps too well—given that stretched over seven long years and followed 21 years after the A80, it disappeared into the horizon in a turbocharged blaze of glory.
Now, after a brief five-year stint, Toyota has announced that this jet-black, unapologetically bold special edition will be the final iteration of the A90. Appropriately named the ‘Final Edition,’ it marks the end of an era.
Rather than going out with a simple sticker-laden farewell, the Final Edition embraces a series of performance-focused updates inspired by the A90’s impressive competition pedigree.
These updates draw from its legacy in drifting, endurance racing, NASCAR, and the championship-winning GT4 series.
The powertrain sees a significant boost. The (BMW-derived) 3.0-liter straight-six engine, paired exclusively with a (BMW-made) six-speed manual transmission, now features a reworked intake air path and optimized engine controls.
These enhancements brought up the output from 335 bhp to a remarkable 429 bhp, delivering nearly 100 additional horsepower and increasing torque by about 50 lb-ft to a robust 420 lb-ft. That’s a transformation worthy of the term “healthy.”
Toyota has also equipped the car with a new baffle plate to ensure steady oil distribution during high-G maneuvers (translation: aggressive drifting).
The cooling system has been upgraded as well, enabling a top speed of 168 mph. While acceleration figures haven’t been disclosed, expect it to land squarely in the “rapid” category. Plus, it promises to sound just as thrilling as it performs.
Handling has also been fine-tuned. The A90 now features adjustable KW suspension with 16 rebound and 12 compression settings, akin to the dampers found in the GT4 race car.
The suspension tweaks include revised camber angles for both the front and rear wheels, along with an optimized active differential to reduce understeer.
Further enhancements extend to the electric steering, while structural rigidity is improved with aluminum mounts, braces, and reinforced stabilizers.
Stopping power comes from massive Brembo brakes housed within lightweight 19-inch wheels wrapped in grippy, wider tires.
Visually, the Final Edition is a stunner. Finished in matte black, it boasts a motorsport-inspired aerodynamic package, including a carbon-fiber front spoiler, canards, a swan-neck rear wing, bonnet venting, and an Akrapovic exhaust system.
All these elements contribute to its aggressive, race-ready aesthetic and, no doubt, its auditory appeal.
Inside, the race-inspired theme continues with Recaro bucket seats, red seat belts, carbon-fiber scuff plates, and Alcantara accents. Every detail reinforces its connection to Toyota’s motorsport heritage.
“Back in the day, I spent countless hours driving an old Supra at Nürburgring to become a master driver,” Toyota boss Akio Toyoda recalled during the A90’s 2019 launch. “Supra is like an old friend that holds a special place in my heart.”
