The Continental Mark II, an ultra-luxury coupé, was produced by Ford’s Continental Division and served as the global flagship for the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 1956 model year, the Mark II was comparable to the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud in exclusivity and craftsmanship, being largely hand-built.

This meticulous production process made it the most expensive American-made automobile available in the U.S. at the time, leading Ford to incur a loss on each unit sold.

As the sole offering from the Continental Division, the Mark II’s name followed a European tradition where “Mark II” signified a second-generation vehicle.

It was conceived as the successor to the First Generation Lincoln Continental, which was produced from 1940 to 1948. Production of the Mark II continued until 1957, after which it was succeeded by the Third Generation Lincoln Continental.
