Xiaomi, a prominent Chinese technology company, has rapidly expanded into the electric vehicle market in just three and a half years. Initially known for its consumer electronics, the company now has big plans to strengthen its presence in the automotive sector. The recent release of its first SUV is a critical component of its strategy to significantly increase sales, which Xiaomi hopes to more than double in the coming years. The company is also working on a third model, further solidifying its ambitions in the electric vehicle space.

In 2024, Xiaomi achieved impressive sales numbers for its SU7 sedan, delivering over 135,000 units. This surpasses its initial goal of 100,000 units for the year and reflects a strong market reception. Despite some fluctuations in sales during the mid-year months, the SU7 has shown a steady upward trajectory, with a sharp rebound in October and November. In October, 20,726 units were delivered, followed by 23,156 in November. These results showcase the growing demand for Xiaomi’s electric cars.

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Xiaomi introduced a special edition of the SU7, designed in a unique hot pink color. Available exclusively through the Xiaomi EV app, the anniversary edition also features distinctive pink and silver wheels. This limited-edition model highlights Xiaomi’s strategy to engage with its customer base and create buzz around its electric vehicles, combining the company’s tech-savvy with a bold and playful approach to car design.

Following the success of the SU7, Xiaomi introduced its second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV. Although detailed specs are still under wraps, it is expected to share similar features with the SU7, including several battery options ranging from 73.6 kWh to 101 kWh. The YU7 will also come with dual-motor all-wheel drive, offering a combined 681 horsepower, making it a powerful and competitive choice in the EV market. The SUV’s pricing is expected to range from ¥250,000 to ¥300,000 (~$34,200–$41,000), positioning it as an affordable yet high-performance vehicle.

Deliveries of the YU7 are scheduled to begin in mid-2025, around June or July. With its attractive pricing and a growing reputation for delivering quality electric vehicles, Xiaomi is quickly establishing itself as a significant player in the electric vehicle market. As the company continues to expand its EV lineup with a third model in development, Xiaomi’s foray into the automotive world is poised to play a key role in its future growth and success in the global market.
