The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced its selection of model year 2025 vehicles for testing under the agency’s 5-Star Safety Ratings program, a key part of its New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). These tests aim to assess vehicle safety performance and provide crucial information to consumers making purchasing decisions. The selected vehicles, combined with previously tested models that have not undergone significant changes, will account for around 87% of the new vehicle fleet.
For the 2025 model year, 37 vehicles have been chosen for testing, including eight electric and hybrid models. These vehicles will be assessed in a variety of crash scenarios, such as frontal, side, and rollover impacts, to determine their safety ratings. Additionally, NHTSA has identified five vehicles for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) verification testing. Technologies evaluated in this category include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support, all of which are designed to enhance safety on the road.
Sophie Shulman, NHTSA’s Deputy Administrator, highlighted the importance of the program in promoting vehicle safety advancements. “NHTSA is committed to providing the public with the most reliable and up-to-date safety information so they can choose the vehicle that’s right for them,” Shulman stated. She also emphasized the program’s role in encouraging automakers to integrate cutting-edge safety technologies into their vehicles, ultimately reducing road injuries and fatalities.
The 5-Star Safety Ratings, ranging from one star (lowest) to five stars (highest), will be accessible on NHTSA.gov/Ratings and included on window stickers of new vehicles once testing is complete. These ratings contribute to the Department of Transportation’s National Roadway Safety Strategy, a comprehensive effort to significantly lower traffic-related deaths and injuries across the country.
Below are detailed tables listing the selected vehicles for both safety rating testing and advanced crash avoidance technology verification. These tables provide consumers with a clear view of the vehicles being evaluated, categorized by their make, model, and body style.
