Can you believe we’re already halfway through the 2020s? Time is flying by just as fast as the high-performance SUVs on this list.

And in keeping with the times, everything is accelerating. Four years ago, the slowest SUVs in our top 10 hit 60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds. Now, a 3.5-second sprint is the bare minimum to even be considered.

To truly grasp how extreme this segment has become, just look at the impressive performance SUVs that didn’t make the cut.

M versions of the X3 and X5 aren’t quite quick enough, while the Range Rover Sport SV, Maserati Grecale Trofeo, and Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S also fall just short.

And that’s merely scratching the surface. If we extended the list to include 4.0-second runs, it would be twice as long.

As before, we’re focusing on 0-60 mph times rather than outright top speed.

Acceleration is a far more relevant factor for buyers in this category, though we do consider top speeds for tie-breakers when two SUVs post identical 0-60 times.

Additionally, for those curious about top-end velocity, we’ve included a rundown of the fastest speed demons at the end of this article.

This list will undoubtedly evolve throughout the year as new models hit the scene, but for now, here’s where things stand in the world of high-speed SUVs for 2025.

1. 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE Hybrid

0-60: 3.4 Seconds
Top Speed: 194 MPH

Brand new for 2025, the Urus SE introduces a single electric motor positioned between the twin-turbo V-8 and the eight-speed automatic transmission.

This setup delivers a formidable 789 horsepower and a combined 701 pound-feet of torque, with peak torque arriving as early as 1,750 rpm.

It stands as the most powerful variant in the Urus lineup, and with a blistering top speed of 194 miles per hour, it holds the title as the fastest SUV in terms of pure velocity.

However, despite its incredible performance, a few competitors including the Urus Performante still manage to edge it out when it comes to sheer acceleration from a standstill.

2. 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

0-60: 3.3 Seconds
Top Speed: 124 MPH

With an extra torque boost from the optional performance upgrade, Ford’s spirited Mach-E GT delivers performance well beyond its class.

Its dual-motor powertrain channels an impressive 700 pound-feet of torque to the pavement, allowing it to reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds slightly quicker than its higher-riding Mach-E Rally counterpart.

And with a starting price of around $58,000, this pony-badged Ford keeps pace with significantly more expensive SUVs. At least for a while. Like the Mach-E Rally, its top speed is electronically limited to 124 miles per hour.

3. 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

0-60: 3.3 Seconds
Top Speed: 161 MPH

Few vehicles deliver shock value quite like the Ioniq 5 N. This practical electric crossover transforms into a rocket when you stomp on the accelerator.

With everything dialed to maximum performance, it surges to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, accompanied by a selection of artificial but undeniably fun engine sounds.

Beyond straight-line speed, the Ioniq 5 N’s dual-motor powertrain can be fine-tuned for impressive handling through corners. However, pushing it to its limits comes at a cost the battery drains quickly when all that fun is unleashed.

4. 2025 Ferrari Purosangue

0-60: 3.3 Seconds
Top Speed: 192 MPH

The Purosangue may technically be an SUV, but at its core, it’s a V-12 supercar wrapped in a crossover shell.

Its naturally aspirated 715-horsepower engine delivers a spine-tingling roar, and with seating for just four, the focus leans heavily toward performance rather than practicality.

That said, it still features four doors, an actual trunk for storage, all-wheel-drive capability, and a dry weight nearing 4,500 pounds.

These attributes might seem unconventional for a Ferrari, but once you slam the accelerator, you’ll rocket to 192 miles per hour while being serenaded by an 8,000-rpm V-12 symphony. That is quintessential Ferrari.

5. 2025 Porsche Macan Turbo

0-60: 3.1 Seconds
Top Speed: 161 MPH

Going fully electric hasn’t slowed down the Macan. Debuting in early 2024, Porsche’s so-called “entry-level” SUV is among the quickest in the world.

While its 800-volt architecture is shared with Audi, nothing from the Four Rings brand reaches 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.

The dual-motor setup delivers a combined 630 horsepower in overboost mode, and thanks to simple gear reduction unlike the Taycan’s two-speed gearbox it reaches a top speed of 161 mph. However, it’s not the fastest Porsche on this list.

6. 2025 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT

0-60: 3.1 Seconds
Top Speed: 190 MPH

On paper, the Cayenne Turbo GT matches the Macan Turbo’s 0-60 mph time exactly. However, while the smaller electric SUV loses momentum early, the Cayenne’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 keeps pulling.

Porsche increased its output to 650 horsepower for 2024, which didn’t impact its initial acceleration but did push its top speed to an impressive 190 mph.

An eight-speed automatic transmission delivers power to all four wheels, but that added performance comes at a steep price.

With a starting cost of $205,795, the Cayenne Turbo GT is nearly twice as expensive as the Macan Turbo.

7. 2025 Aston Martin DBX707

0-60: 3.1 Seconds
Top Speed: 193 MPH

Only the Lamborghini Urus SE can keep pace with the DBX707, but even then, it’s a chase from start to finish.

With a blistering 3.1-second sprint to 60 mph, the refined Aston Martin edges out the hybrid-powered Lambo, and on paper, the Urus holds just a 1 mph advantage in top speed.

As one of the last remaining bastions of pure combustion performance, the DBX707 produces 697 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 no hybrid assistance required. It’s brutally quick, gloriously loud, and remarkably practical for a five-seat SUV.

8. 2024 Lotus Eletre R

0-62: 2.95 Seconds
Top Speed: 165 MPH

Breaking into the sub-three-second club, the sharply styled Eletre delivers a staggering 905 horsepower from its dual-motor powertrain.

A two-speed transmission strikes a balance between blistering acceleration and a top speed that maxes out at 165 mph.

Since Lotus only provides acceleration figures to 62 mph (100 kilometers per hour), the actual 0-60 time could be slightly quicker.

Either way, the Eletre has rightfully earned its place among the fastest SUVs in the world.

9. 2025 Rivian R1S Tri-Motor

0-60: 2.9 Seconds
Top Speed: 130 MPH

This list will likely see an update once the long-awaited quad-motor R1S finally hits the market. But for now, the Tri-Motor variant is more than quick enough, launching from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds.

Rivian has also relaxed the electronic speed limiter slightly, allowing drivers to hit 130 mph provided launch control is engaged before takeoff.

So why cap the top speed at 130 mph? Like the R1S Dual, this isn’t a hypercar in disguise. It’s a rugged, three-row SUV built for adventure, rolling on all-terrain tires with real off-road capability.

And with a 400-mile range, it can go the distance just as long as you don’t overuse launch control.

10. 2025 Tesla Model X Plaid

0-60: 2.5 Seconds
Top Speed: 163 MPH

Even with the surge of high-powered SUVs, the Model X Plaid still reigns supreme. According to Tesla, it rockets to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, though unofficial tests have recorded even quicker times.

And this isn’t some stripped-down, bare-bones speed machine it packs a staggering 1,020 horsepower while retaining all the signature Model X features.

The steering yoke replaces the traditional wheel, the distinctive gullwing rear doors still open skyward, and it’s capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds. For a brief moment, it can even keep pace with nearly any production vehicle in the world.
