Nissan has revealed the all-new NX8, a midsize electrified SUV developed specifically for the Chinese market through its joint venture with Dongfeng. The model represents a key expansion of the company’s growing N-series lineup and is scheduled to go on sale in 2026.

As the first SUV in this series, the NX8 joins the N6 and N7 sedans and will be offered with multiple electrified powertrain options, including fully electric and range-extender hybrid variants. This approach reflects Nissan’s broader effort to strengthen its position in China’s highly competitive new-energy vehicle market.

The NX8 adopts a clean, modern design that aligns with Nissan’s evolving styling direction. Its front end features a smooth, grille-less fascia paired with a full-width lighting signature and split headlamp arrangement. At the rear, a continuous OLED taillight bar enhances the SUV’s high-tech appearance, while flush door handles and sculpted bodywork contribute to its streamlined profile.

In terms of size, the NX8 sits between the Rogue (X-Trail) and Pathfinder. It measures approximately 4,870 mm in length with a 2,917 mm wheelbase, making it larger than the Rogue but slightly smaller than the Pathfinder. The extended wheelbase is expected to translate into improved interior space and passenger comfort.

Despite its dimensions, the NX8 features a two-row, five-seat layout, with a focus on maximizing cabin space and integrating advanced technology rather than increasing seating capacity.

The interior is expected to deliver a premium experience, highlighted by a screen-heavy dashboard, advanced infotainment, and a strong emphasis on digital interfaces and driver assistance systems.

Powertrain options will include a fully electric variant producing up to 335 horsepower, as well as a range-extender hybrid that pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor generating around 262 horsepower.

In the hybrid configuration, the gasoline engine functions as a generator rather than directly driving the wheels, consistent with the growing adoption of series-hybrid systems in China.

All versions will use lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CATL and will support ultra-fast charging through an 800-volt architecture. While official range figures have not yet been disclosed, the platform is designed to offer competitive efficiency and performance within its segment.

Technology plays a central role in the NX8, with features such as LiDAR-based driver assistance, customizable lighting elements, and a highly digitalized cabin. These elements position the SUV as a forward-looking product tailored to the expectations of Chinese consumers, where connectivity and software integration are increasingly important.

The NX8 is expected to launch in China in the first half of 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to release. Although Nissan has not confirmed plans for global availability, there is speculation that the model could eventually reach other markets.

The NX8 represents a strategic move for Nissan as it adapts to the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape. By combining advanced technology, flexible electrified powertrains, and a focus on modern design, the company is positioning the NX8 as a competitive entry in the midsize SUV segment.
