BYD has officially launched its premium Denza brand in Europe, marking a major step in its broader global expansion strategy and signaling a direct challenge to established luxury automakers in the region.

Originally formed as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza is now fully owned by the Chinese automaker and positioned as its high-end sub-brand. It is intended to showcase advanced technology, premium design, and high-performance electrified powertrains, serving as a flagship for BYD’s ambitions in the global luxury EV market.

The European rollout will begin in key markets including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. BYD has outlined plans for rapid expansion, targeting a presence in as many as 30 European countries by the end of 2026. This aggressive strategy reflects the company’s confidence in growing demand for premium electric vehicles across the region.

Denza’s launch lineup will be led by two flagship models that highlight the brand’s range and capabilities. The first is the Z9 GT, a high-performance shooting brake that emphasizes speed and advanced engineering.

In its fully electric form, the model delivers up to 1,139 horsepower and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds, placing it firmly in the high-performance category.

The Z9 GT will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid, providing additional flexibility for buyers. This version is expected to deliver up to 126 miles of electric-only driving, with a total combined range of approximately 500 miles. This dual approach allows Denza to appeal to both fully electric adopters and customers who prefer the added reassurance of extended range.

Alongside it, Denza is introducing the D9, a large premium minivan designed with comfort, space, and long-distance usability in mind. The model reflects a different aspect of the brand’s strategy, focusing on practicality and luxury rather than outright performance, and targeting families and executive transport markets.

Technology will play a central role in Denza’s positioning in Europe. The brand is expected to feature advanced electric platforms, high-speed charging capabilities, and a strong emphasis on digital integration across its vehicles.

In support of its expansion, BYD also plans to invest in infrastructure, with a goal of deploying around 3,000 charging stations across Europe within the first year of operation.

Denza’s entry into Europe places it in direct competition with established premium brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, particularly in the rapidly growing electric and hybrid segments.

The company’s strategy combines high levels of performance and technology with competitive pricing, aiming to redefine value within the luxury EV category.

The timing of the launch aligns with increasing demand for electric vehicles in Europe, where stricter emissions regulations and shifting consumer preferences are accelerating the transition away from traditional combustion engines.

By entering the market with high-performance and technology-focused models, Denza is positioning itself as a serious contender rather than a niche alternative.

The introduction of Denza in Europe represents a significant milestone for BYD. It highlights the company’s intention to move further upmarket and compete on a global stage, leveraging its expertise in electrification to challenge established players in the premium automotive segment.
