Carlos Sainz has shared that he and teammate Charles Leclerc are pushing each other to secure the constructors’ title for Ferrari.

The Italian team has made strides toward claiming its first world championship since 2008, demonstrated by recent races.

At the Mexico City Grand Prix, a double podium finish – with Sainz taking the win – allowed Ferrari to leap ahead of Red Bull, securing second place in the standings.

Ferrari now trails leaders McLaren by just 29 points with four rounds left in the season.

With Ferrari winning three of the last five races, Sainz expressed confidence that the team can steer the title fight in its favor before the campaign concludes.

“I think we both believe it is possible and we are actually talking about it more and more often now,” Sainz told media.

“We motivate each other, knowing there’s a chance, and we’re like, ‘Yeah, come on.’

“We have a good relationship, and I think we both know there’s an opportunity, and we both know we’re in a good moment with our driving.”

This season, Red Bull has often found itself largely reliant on Max Verstappen, as Sergio Perez has faced challenges with the RB20.

McLaren, too, faced obstacles in Mexico as Oscar Piastri’s difficult qualifying left him starting near the back.

Sainz emphasized the importance of both Ferrari drivers consistently competing at the front in fueling Ferrari’s recent surge – a key factor for sustaining their momentum.

“Consistency and having both drivers up there will be essential,” Sainz said.

“This weekend, we performed well on a tricky track, where Q1 and Q2 were chaotic and anything could go right or wrong.

“So we just need to keep ourselves in that fight. And as Charles said, we can’t become obsessed with it because it doesn’t entirely depend on us.

“With how fast McLaren is, we partly rely on them as well. But we’ll keep doing our best and motivating each other to win it.”
