The Durham MG and Classic Car Club recently took to the picturesque countryside around Crook as part of the Gulf Road Trip – an exciting journey connecting various Gulf locations across Scotland and England, stretching from Glasgow to Bristol.

Throughout October, this cross-country road trip brought together members from several classic car clubs, including QS Car Club, MG Owners Club, Cumbria Classic Car Club, and Glasgow Moggies.

Rising to the Gulf Road Trip challenge, these dedicated drivers collectively traveled over 300 miles.

The lineup of vehicles on the trip was truly impressive. Classic models like the 1960s Morris Minors, often fondly referred to as “Moggies,” shared the road with Triumph TRs and even a 1932 MG TC.

As is often said, a road trip is about the journey, not just the destination. This adventure proved to be an unforgettable journey for everyone involved.

At each Gulf site, the drivers were warmly welcomed with special hospitality, where they were able to meet the friendly Gulf staff and enjoy refreshments like Costa Coffee drinks and Rollover hotdogs.

Adding to the experience, the drivers participated in photoshoots, drawing a crowd of onlookers, including local residents and other car enthusiasts.

“We had heavy rain in the morning so lots of spray, but it didn’t put us off.

“I produced a little route book and led the way, so we were driving in a convoy.

“It was a fun day and we all felt quite important with the photographer there and the banners – we were chuffed to see those!

“One of our members Roy, who’s in his 80s, came along in his MG TC from 1932 and he was joined by his son who was doing the directions.

“We had a few bumps in the road. One of our member’s breaks went part way through the road trip and someone else got lost at one point but we all made it home in one piece.

“They were all very friendly at the Gulf sites. We got our coffee and sandwiches at the SPAR shops. We all felt very special.”

“The road trip was a huge success! Gulf super fans have long been asking for a road trip across our sites, so we’re thrilled to have made that happen with the help of car groups nationwide.

“It’s been great to shine a light on these eye-catching cars and our independent sites through the road trip. Our drivers braved the autumn weather and brought a smile to the faces of Gulf customers, team members and local residents. We’re very grateful for all their support!”

The Gulf Road Trip was indeed a memorable adventure, offering camaraderie, community support, and an undeniable appreciation for these classic cars.

Each driver, rain or shine, played a part in bringing smiles to faces and showcasing both their vehicles and the spirit of the journey itself.
